It’s one of those “Is this really true” moments for new affiliates when they discover the truth about affiliate marketing. When it dawns on them you don’t have to worry about product development or shipping.
They immediately jump on board and forget to perform their due diligence on the company they are joining. Then they expect to start making money within weeks of starting and it doesn’t happen. Then reality strikes when they say to themselves “this is harder than I thought”.
Here’s a list of 6 mistakes they make and tips on how to eliminate them.
1. No having patience:
Patience is can be a learned process. Some are born with it, like my wife, and other have to learn it, like myself. It took years for Wendy’ to be a successful and it took years for Apple and other big companies to heard towards success.
Statics indicate most business takes up to 5years to start seeing profit. Treating your affiliate business as a real business is a necessity. Super affiliates that earn thousands a month but it took years to get to there.
Do a lot of research a program before signing up. Search Clickbank, JV Zoo and Warriors Plus to see what’s selling well at the moment. If they offer training take advantage of it. Always update and your site with fresh content. Don’t “bail out” when the going gets a little tough. Don’t ever give up.
2. Avoid Signing Up To Too Many Programs:
When the going gets tough, its easy to think the grass is greener the other side. The issue with subscribing to too many programs is that you’ll won’t give them the attention and focus they need to make you some cash.
I recommend one or two programs at the same time so you won’t get overwhelmed. Concentrate on them and work hard to put the tools they provide in place.
3. The Wrong Choice of Program:
When choosing affiliate programs, select the ones that have a high commission structure. 50% or better payouts per sale is a good starting point. See how they pay their affiliates and how often. you must have affiliate products that target audience.
Choose affiliate programs that offers products or services that will interest people means no commission. If you join a program that offers products that are “hot” you will be competing with thousands of others who are promoting the same affiliate product.
The key is to get in on the front end when they’re newly launched. It’s best to choose a niche you know something about. Do a little research at the above mention sites to check the profitability of that niche or product.
4. Generalized Marketing:
Focus on Niche Marketing: Focus on a small niche, the smaller and narrower the niche the better it is. Try improving on one aspect of your business at a time. Putting forth effort in one of two targeted ways will help you achieve your goals.
Get people to sign up for your email list. If you don’t have an opt-in form on your site, put one on there immediately. If you need a reliable autoresponder service, I recommend and use Aweber (LINK). The money is in your list! Send out valuable content that will benefit them. Be a giver and not a taker and your business will soar like an eagle.
5. Organic Traffic Only:
Another mistake most affiliates makes is the idea of generating only traffic via SEO. Relying on traffic from the search engines is a “crap shoot” at best. They are always changing their algorithms. This form of traffic that is naturally generated from your site, is a “shot in the dark”. A really good way to help your search engine ranking is to provide valuable content on you site or blog. That’s what search engines like.
6. Link Exposure:
Hiding your affiliate links on your website is critical nowadays. Most affiliate marketers still make the mistake of having their affiliate links visible. The truth is, most people won’t click on an affiliate link or anything that appears as such. Learn how to hide or cloak your affiliate links.
I use a domain name on my web host account that redirects my affiliate links. Works like a champ and is a much better route to go versus cloaking. There’s thieves among us, protect yourself and your bank account.
There are many big mistakes that affiliate marketers make that can be easily avoided and corrected. These are just a handful of them. Making mistakes in your affiliate business are inevitable and are going to happen. We’ve all made them.
The main thing to do is learn from them and keep on moving forward toward your goals and affiliate marketing success.
